Neal Durant

Neal Durant is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Washington, D.C. with more than 28 years of experience investigating, remediating, and managing complex contaminated sites.

Neal serves as a consultant and advisor to multi-national corporations and government agencies on matters involving quantification, management, and remediation of environmental liabilities. His clients include information technology service companies, aerospace manufacturers, industrial chemicals manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, waste management companies, energy utilities, and law firms.

Known internationally for his expertise in remediation of chlorinated solvents in groundwater, Neal has been selected as a subject matter expert by and co-authored guidance manuals on this topic for the U.S. Navy, U.S. EPA, U.S. Air Force, SERDP/ESTCP, Swedish EPA, and the Danish EPA. He specializes in the design of in situ remediation systems for high-strength contaminant source areas and complex mixtures; his technology specialties include in situ bioremediation, chemical oxidation, nanoscale zero valent iron, alkaline hydrolysis, surfactant-enhanced flushing, and co-solvent flushing.

On Geosyntec's behalf, Neal serves on the Board of Directors for CAT Alliance Ltd., a global joint venture consultancy and United Kindgdom registered company specializing in environmental due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, divestures, insurance underwriting, and corporate accounting. He has led quantification of environmental liabilities on site portfolios exceeding $50 billion. His international professional experience includes projects located in Brazil, China, Denmark, Ecuador, England, Finland, Germany, Greenland, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Puerto Rico, and Sweden.

Neal holds a faculty position at Johns Hopkins University in the Whiting School of Engineering, Engineering for Professionals Program, and has lectured at Tufts University, University of Virginia, Bucknell University, Lehigh University, Johns Hopkins University, and the Technical University of Denmark. He has co-authored eleven research papers in peer-reviewed journals, and his publications collectively have been cited more than 400 times according to Google Scholar.
